Comfort & Care Ministry

What is the Comfort & Care Ministry and who is eligible?

The Comfort & Care Ministry serves the congregants of Lighthouse AND the community at large. Our mission is to provide meals and support for the sick, mourning, shut-in, elderly, newly expectant families and anyone else in need of help to ease daily burdens.

How does the C&C Ministry find out about those who need help?

Never assume the C&C Ministry is aware of a family in need. Please contact the LWC church office if you or someone you know has a need for help with meals.

How long will a family receive meals?

The standard delivery schedule lasts from one to two weeks, on an every-other-day basis. However, the length of time may vary depending upon individual circumstances.

How do I provide meals?

The C&C Ministry is an excellent way to meet other people from LWC and surrounding areas and make a difference in their life! Meals DO NOT have to be homemade. In these situations, it is definitely “the thought that counts.” In times of need, a friendly face and a meal is a true gift.

Our goal is to have enough volunteers that those who sign up will be available to make one meal every eight weeks, about six times a year. If you are not available to cook meals, maybe you have the time to pick up meals and drop them off. This is a great opportunity for students who have an hour to spare. Every helping hand and giving heart is greatly appreciated and will bless a family beyond measure!

Mark your calenders!

Mark your calenders for the FIRST Sunday of every month (Communion Sunday) as the day to bring a prepared meal to the church before or after service to put in the freezer. Simply pick up some “Meal labels” from the LWC Info Desk to take home with you so you can fill it out and tape it your meal before bringing it to the kitchen.

Meal Guidelines:

-We provide a complete meal and deliver it to the recipients’ home.
-It can be store bought, homemade, frozen or just about anything!
-We attempt to accommodate allergies and food preferences
-We strive to work out a schedule that benefits the recipient the most while working with the schedule of the volunteer.

Meal tips and ideas

1. Use disposable containers whenever possible
2. Call ahead, preferably the day before, to discuss a drop-off time and location.
3. Deliver frozen or freezable meals when it is impossible/impractical to to deliver hot meals.
4. Invite the family to share a meal in your home.
5. Treat the family to delivery from a restaurant or take them out to eat (if they are up for it).

To request a meal, participate in the Comfort and Care ministry, or if you have any questions, please contact the church office.

We look forward to expanding this ministry with your help. Thank you for your servant’s heart!
